AFSCME Local 60 - Municipal & School District Employees of Dane County

1/3/13: Rick's Top 10 for 2012

 1. I am thankful that unlike the Republicans, the American people didn't want Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security gutted to help pay for tax cuts for the richest one percent so they elected Barack Obama president for a second term.

2. I am thankful for the teachers, nurses, custodial workers, bus drivers, and other public employees who every day take possession of our most precious gifts and guard them with their lives.  They are heroes.

3. I am thankful for brothers and sisters who see an issue or injustice and fight to have it recognized, even if it's not popular, tirelessly organizing marches and rallying the troops.

4. I am thankful for our brothers and sisters who have come before me and have now made it to that elusive goal of retirement.  They have mentored me and shown me by example how to get the job done.  They have worked and sacrificed and I am happy to see them reach their reward for a long career of service in the workforce.  It gives me hope that I too can make it.

5. I am thankful for our brothers and sisters who have inspired me and give me hope for the future by helping build new locals and recruit new members.

6. I am thankful for brothers and sisters who donated time or their hard-earned money to help get our friends elected.  It gives me hope that we can build on the wins and gain benefits for the ninety nine percent.

7. I am thankful to those who dedicated time to attend public hearings and committee meetings which gave strength to our cause and allowed us to have a voice where it would have otherwise been silent.

8. I am thankful for the folks who took the time to confide in me their concerns throughout the year.  It helped me to understand what issues were important and know the people I represent better.

9. I am especially thankful to those brothers and sisters who, when I express an opinion, absolutely disagree with me and tell me so.  You are the only people who I learn from.

10. I am thankful for being allowed to serve my community by helping provide an essential service.  It makes me feel in some small way like I make a difference.
